KL City’s Mendoza: AFC Cup™ triumph would be a dream
Kuala Lumpur: Kevin Mendoza has insisted that should Kuala Lumpur City FC win the AFC Cup™ 2022 final, it would be an even bigger achievement than lifting the Malaysia Cup last year as the tournament debutants prepare for the final against Oman’s Al Seeb Club on October 22.
Philippines goalkeeper Mendoza signed for KL City last year and within the first 12 months helped them win the Malaysia Cup for the first time in 32 years after stunning domestic powerhouse Johor Darul Ta’zim in the final to qualify for their maiden AFC Cup.
Kuala Lumpur: A new name will appear on the AFC Cup™ roll of honour after the 2022 final as a pair of debutants in Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur City FC and Oman’s Al Seeb Club face off for the right to be crowned kings of Asia.
The competition’s 18th final sees Al Seeb aim to become Oman’s first-ever champions, while KL City are looking to follow in the footsteps of domestic rivals Johor Darul Ta’zim, who won the title back in 2015.

Bojan Hodak’s side would lift the coveted silverware by beating Oman’s Al Seeb Club in the final on October 22, but the City Boys wouldn’t be the first side from Malaysia to win the AFC Cup. That honour belongs to Johor Darul Ta’zim, who got their hands on the trophy back in 2015 with Hodak also playing a key role in the success.
