Malang: AFC Cup 2012 quarter-finalists Arema Indonesia clinched third place in the Indonesian Premier League as they hammered Bontang FC 7-0 on Tuesday, the biggest win margin in the league’s current season.
Roman Chemelo led the pack in Arema’s goals extravaganza with his hat-trick (18, 66 and 90mins) with Achmad Amiruddin (15mins), Putut Waringin Jati (40mins), Anggo Julian (51mins) and Jaya Teguh Angga (74mins) each chipping a goal.
Right from the kick-off, Arema were in total control of their last game in the league where prolific striker Roman Chmelo was the fifth best scorer with 11 goals for Arema, five goals behind Ferdinand Alfred Sinaga of champions Semen Padang.
The AFC Cup contenders finished with 37 points from 22 matches, nine points behind Semen Padang.
The Dejan Antonic-led Arema finished second behind Kelantan of Malaysia with seven points from three matches in AFC Cup 2012 Group H and went on to beat Hong Kong’s Kitchee 2-0 in the Round of 16, clinching their passage to the last eight.
The Indonesian representatives will host Al Ettifaq, one of the two teams remaining in the tournament who have yet to taste defeat, when the AFC Cup quarter-final begins on September 18, before travelling to Saudi Arabia for the second-leg match a week later.
