Syrian Premier League kicks off on Wednesday

Damascus: Defending champions Teshrin will kick off the defence of their title against Hutteen SC as the Syrian Premier League starts on Wednesday with several precautionary measures in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Syrian Football Association announced that fans will be able to attend matches but with stadiums limited to 40 percent of the total capacity to adhere to the guidelines on physical distancing.

Teshrin, who won their third league title last July, will hope to recover from their recent defeat to Al Wahda in the Syrian Super Cup in the Latakia Derby against Hutteen.

Skočić right man to lead Iran, says Taremi

Tehran: Star striker Mehdi Taremi is confident Dragan Skočić can lead Islamic Republic of Iran to success in the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023.

Taremi, who plies his trade with Portuguese side FC Porto, believes Skočić’s knowledge of Iranian football is a huge advantage in leading Team Melli in their bid to qualify for a third consecutive FIFA World Cup.

After coaching stints in Croatia, Slovenia, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Skočić moved to Iran in 2013, where he took charge of Malavan.
