Group A: Late Aljwayed strike seals Jableh historic triumph
Muscat: There was an abundance of chances but Syria’s Jableh SC left it late to record a historic first-ever AFC Cup™ win, defeating Lebanon’s Al Ansar 1-0 at Seeb Sports Stadium on Matchday Two of the Group A on Saturday.
Both sides went into the game in pursuit of their first win of the campaign, with Al Ansar having drawn 1-1 against Kuwait SC on Wednesday and Jableh having fallen to a narrow 1-0 defeat against group hosts Al Seeb.
Kuwait City: Dhofar FC almost came back against Al Riffa, but lost 3-2 on Matchday Two in Group B of the AFC Cup™ 2022 at the Kuwait SC Stadium on Saturday.
Having lost their first game, Riffa went into the game with the three points as their target; and their fiery start to the game was a statement of intent on their part, although the momentum swiftly lessened after Dhofar fought back to save what could be saved, equalising midway through the second half before a penalty decided proceedings deep into injury time.
Group B: Arabi SC edge Shabab Al Khalil to stay perfect
Kuwait City: Arabi SC confirmed at least a top two finish with their second win on the trot in the AFC Cup™ 2022 Group B, defeating Shabab Al Khalil of Palestine 1-0 at the Kuwait SC Stadium on Saturday.
With just one game left in Group B, Arabi will look to guarantee top spot in the table against Oman’s Dhofar FC on Matchday Three, while the eliminated Shabab Al Khalil will take on Bahrain’s Al Riffa.
Group D: Victory over Gokulam Kerala revives Maziya's campaign
Kolkata: Maziya Sports & Recreation revived their AFC Cup 2022™ knockout stage hopes and set up a thrilling final day of Group D action with a deserved 1-0 win over Gokulam Kerala FC on Saturday.
A Cornelius Stewart goal shortly after half-time settled the tie, leaving all four teams in the group on three points ahead of Tuesday’s third and final Matchday at Kolkata’s Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium.
That means every kick will take on significance when Gokulam Kerala face Bashundhara Kings in their final match, while Maziya will go into the group finale against ATK Mohun Bagan knowing exactly what is required.
Group D: ATK Mohun Bagan bounce back with win over Bashundhara Kings
Kolkata: Liston Colaco scored a hat-trick as ATK Mohun Bagan defied awful conditions to keep their AFC Cup 2022™ knockout stage hopes alive with a commanding 4-0 win over Bashundhara Kings of Bangladesh on Saturday.
In a match delayed for nearly an hour due to a heavy storm, the weather did nothing to impede Colaco, who scored twice before half-time, then added a third after the interval to take his tally in the tournament to four goals in two matches.
The win means ATK Mohun Bagan joins Bashundhara on three points from two matches, with both sides still in contention heading into Tuesday’s crucial Matchday Three.
