The win kept the Indonesian side's hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage alive while Hougang's campaign is as good as over.

However, substitute Yu Chia-huang scored a third in the 69th minute before Kouame went on to bag two late goals to complete his hat-trick and hand the Chinese Taipei champions their first win in three group stage fixtures.

Jesse Kante gave Urawa the lead in the first half but Pohang came fighting back, scoring through Zeca and Kim In-sung with the defending champions seeing red twice following the expulsion of Takahiro Akimoto and head coach Maciej Skorza.

The magnificent performance shown by the Thai side had head coach Arthur Papastamatis purring as they became the first team to hand City a defeat in this season’s tournament.

Both earned their first point but could be eliminated from the running to finish as group winners should there be a victor in the later game between Bangkok FC and Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies.

The win sets up the Red Angels nicely heading into the final group game against Australia’s Sydney FC, while Bam Khatoon will be aiming for a strong finish when they meet FC Nasaf on Sunday.

Champions in 2015, Australia will begin their Group B campaign against India on January 13 with head coach Graham Arnold, in charge for a second successive AFC Asian Cup, said Australia will enter the tournament with the expectation of lifting the coveted trophy again.
