Group I: Hougang United (SGP) 4-3 Phnom Penh Crown FC (CAM)
Ho Chi Minh City: Singapore's Hougang United overturned a two-goal deficit to defeat Phnom Penh Crown of Cambodia 4-3 in their AFC Cup™ 2022 Group I opener on Friday.
The Cambodian side opened the scoring at the quarter-hour mark when Japanese midfielder Yudai Ogawa lined up a free-kick and looked to send it through the defensive wall, but it was deflected behind for a corner that Yeu Muslim curled towards the far post.
The ball bounced off the woodwork and fell for club captain Choun Chanchav to tap it home from point blank range.
Dushanbe: Uzbekistan’s PFC Sogdiana kicked off their AFC Cup™ 2022 Group E campaign with a 2-0 win over PFC Neftchi of Kyrgyz Republic on Friday.
Luka Cermelj opened the scoring in first half added time, before they doubled their lead eight minutes into the second half through Marko Kolakovic, which proved enough to secure the points for the Uzbek Super League club.
Bishkek: Daler Yodgorov scored twice as FC Khujand of Tajikistan defeated debutants Kopetdag FC of Turkmenistan 3-1 in their AFC Cup™ 2022 Group F encounter at the Dolen Omurzakov Stadium on Friday.
Yodgorov scored in the third and seventh minutes before Tokhir Maladustov sealed the three points with a late third goal that extinguished any hopes of a Kopetdag fightback after Begench Akmamedov scored for them in the second half.
Group G: Kaya FC-Iloilo (PHI) 1-2 Visakha FC (CAM)
Denpasar: A stunning goal from substitute Sa Ty headlined Visakha FC’s 2-1 win over Kaya FC-Iloilo as the AFC Cup™ 2022 returned to action with the first match of the ASEAN Zone in Group G’s opener at the Stadion Kapten I Wayan Dipta on Friday.
An end-to-end start saw chances for both sides before Kaya forward Arnel Amita headed home the game’s first goal on 30 minutes, only to see Visakha's Ken Chansopheak level things up after the break. The stage was set for a bit of magic to decide matters and it was to come from the Cambodians as Sa Ty's 59th minute rocket settled the tie.
Group G: Bali United FC (IDN) 2-0 Kedah Darul Aman (MAS)
Denpasar: Bali United FC got their AFC Cup™ 2022 Group G campaign off to a winning start after the Indonesian champions claimed a deserved 2-0 victory over Malaysia’s Kedah Darul Aman on Friday.
Spurred on by a rapturous home support at Stadion Kapten I Wayan Dipta, Bali twice came close in the opening half hour before eventually taking the lead in first-half stoppage time after an own goal from Kedah skipper Ronald Ngah.
Stefano Cugurra’s team dominated the second half and added a second with a little under 10 minutes remaining through substitute Rahmat Syamsuddin Leo, much to the delight of the near-capacity crowd as Bali moved to the top of the early Group G standings.
Group J: Lee Man (HKG) 1-3 Eastern Long Lions (HKG)
Buriram: Victor Bertomeu struck twice as Eastern Long Lions came back from a goal behind to hand fellow Hong Kong Premier League side Lee Man a 3-1 defeat in their opening Group J clash in the AFC Cup™ 2022 in Buriram on Friday.
The Spaniard scored either side of halftime at a rain-sodden Buriram Stadium after Gil Martins had given Lee Man a 10th minute lead that was cancelled out by Ma Hei-wan’s strike six minutes later.
Eastern’s win gives Roberto Losada’s side a major boost in their quest for a place in the next phase of the competition with only three teams – Chinese Taipei’s Tainan City FC complete the line-up - featuring in Group J due to the withdrawal of Macau’s MUST CPK FC.
