Jakarta: A Marko Simic hat-trick eased Persija Jakarta of Indonesia to a 4-1 win over Singapore’s Tampines Rovers in Group H of the 2018 AFC Cup on Wednesday.
The Croatian striker put Persija 1-0 up in the 12th minute at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, slamming Riko Simanjuntak’s cut back from the right under goalkeeper Syazwan Buhari to give the hosts the early initiative.
Rezaldi Hehanusa then doubled his side’s advantage four minutes before half time, cutting inside from the left wing before rifling home with his right foot from 20 yards.
Persija centre-back Jaime was dismissed for a second yellow card in just the 48th minute, but two more Simic strikes in the 74th and 86th minutes sandwiched a 77th-minute consolation for Tampines from Khairul Amri to ensure the 10 men left with all three points.
Next, Persija travel to Vietnam to take on Group H leaders Song Lam Nghe An FC, while Matchday 3 will also see Tampines host Malaysia’s Johor Darul Ta’zim on March 6.

Beirut: Two first-half goals and a late Khalil Bani Atiyah strike gave Al Faisaly a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Lebanon’s Al Ansar on Matchday Two of the AFC Cup Group C.
Senegalese striker Dominique Mendy fired the two-time AFC Cup winners in front inside seven minutes, heading in from Oday Zahran’s cross.
Skipper Ahmed Hayel doubled Al Faisaly’s lead before the break. Polish striker Lukasz Gikiewicz set up Hayel with a headed pass before the Number 9 applied a composed finish when one-on-one with the Lebanese goalkeeper in the 39th minute.
El Hadji Malick Tall pulled one back for the home side three minutes after the restart, after outmuscling his marker and finishing on the half-volley. However, Bani Atiyah restored Al Faisaly’s lead two minutes from time with a left-footed finish from inside the box.
The result puts Al Faisaly at the top of the group with four points ahead of their Matchday Three home encounter with Dhofar while Al Ansar sit behind them on three points as they face Al Wahda next.
