Paro: Paro FC's Chencho Gyeltshen has admitted that the chance to face former club Bengaluru FC in the next round of the AFC Cup 2020 qualifiers excites him as the Bhutanese side prepare to take on Sri Lanka’s Defenders FC in the second leg of Preliminary Round 1 on Wednesday.
Gyeltshen returned to Bhutan to appear for his hometown club Paro in the Continental competition and found the back of the net on his debut – a 3-3 draw in the first leg in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo – last Wednesday.
The Bhutanese champions will now go into the return meeting at Changlimithang Stadium as favourites to advance to a Preliminary Round 2 clash with Indian Super League side Bengaluru, where Gyeltshen spent the 2018-19 season.
Preliminary Stage 1 - 1st Leg: Defenders FC 3-3 Paro FC
Colombo: Bhutan’s Paro FC claimed three valuable away goals in a 2020 AFC Cup Preliminary Stage 1 first leg thriller against Defenders FC of Sri Lanka, as the sides shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw at Racecourse International Stadium on Wednesday.
Defenders may have played host, but it was a night where the attackers made themselves at home for both teams, with the match producing five first half goals before Chameera Sajith netted the equaliser for the Sri Lankan outfit in the 63rd minute.
Sajith scored twice for Defenders, while Cameroonian forward Dieudonne Fabassou bagged a brace for Paro, who will hold a slight advantage when the teams face off for a second time in Bhutan next Wednesday.
