Sana'a: AFC Cup Group B side Al Arouba claimed the 2011 Yemen Super Cup with a narrow 1-0 win over Al Tilal at the Ali Mohsen Al Muraisi Stadium on Thursday.
The only goal of the game came in the 14th minute with Ftai Adisa Alaw scoring what ultimately proved the winner for the reigning Yemen Champions.
Al Orouba open their AFC Cup 2012 campaign on March 6 against East Bengal while Al Tilal - who finished runners-up in the Super Cup for the third time - must negotiate the playoffs if they are to join their compatriots in the group stage of the continental competition.
Al Tilal were handed home advantage against Victory of the Maldives following the draw for what is the first-ever playoff stage in the history of the AFC Cup.
Victory, who are hoping to take part in the AFC Cup for the fifth time having failed to get past the Group Stage in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011, make the long trip to Aden for the West Zone Playoff on February 18.
The winners will advance to Group E of the 2012 AFC Cup, where Syria's Al Shorta, Safa of Lebanon, the 2008 runners-up, and Iraq giants Al Zarwaa await.
