Kuala Lumpur: AFC Asian Cup 2015 final referee Alireza Faghani of Iran has been selected to officiate at the FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2015.
The 30-year-old international referee and his assistants are among six refereeing trios, the others being from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) and Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), chosen to officiate at the world clubs extravaganza.
An international referee since 2008, Faghani is, however, not new to taking charge of key fixtures, as he officiated the 2009 AFC President’s Cup final and 2010 AFC Challenge Cup final match between Turkmenistan and DPR Korea who won the championship.
He was also the referee for the 2014 AFC Champions League final first leg match between eventual winners Western Sydney Wanderers of Australia and Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal
Faghani will be assisted by AFC Assistant Referees and compatriots Reza Sokhandan and Mohammedreza Mansouri, while Japan duo Ryuji Sato and Akane Yagi have been selected to fulfill the roles of support officials for the tournament which will be held from 10 to 20 December.
