Hwang: Future bright for Korea Republic

Bangkok: Hwang Sun-hong bid farewell to Korea Republic comfortable in the knowledge that the East Asian side are on the verge of qualifying for the third round of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers and confirming their ticket to the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™.

A 3-0 win over Thailand took Korea Republic, who have qualified for every edition of the FIFA World Cup since 1986, to 10 points leaving them only needing one more from their remaining two matches to confirm progression.
 
Lee Jae-sung, Son Heung-min and Park Jin-seop scored as Korea Republic bounced back in style after being 1-1 by Thailand in Thursday's reverse fixture.

Group C: Thailand 0-3 Korea Republic

Bangkok: Korea Republic moved a step closer to booking their spot in the third phase of the preliminaries of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and at the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 as Lee Jae-sung, Son Heung-min and Park Jin-seop scored in a 3-0 win over Thailand on Tuesday.

The victory at Bangkok’s Rajamangala Stadium moves the Koreans, under interim coach Hwang Sun-hong, onto 10 points from four games and means a draw in their meeting with hosts Singapore on June 6 will seal their progress from Group C.
 
The result leaves Thailand in third place in the standings, three points behind China PR following their 4-1 win over Singapore earlier in the day with the two nations due to meet on Matchday Five.

Seoul: Thailand head coach Masatada Ishii credited his players' confidence after they held  Korea Republic to a 1-1 draw in Group C of the Preliminary Joint Qualification – Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ on Thursday.

Son Heung-min put Korea Republic in front going into the break before a resurgent Thailand levelled the tie through substitute Suphanat Mueanta.

Seoul: Suphanat Mueanta’s second-half equaliser helped Thailand claim a memorable 1-1 draw against Korea Republic in Group C of the Preliminary Joint Qualification – Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ on Thursday.

Son Heung-min put the hosts in front four minutes before the interval at Seoul World Cup Stadium but substitute Suphanat levelled proceedings shortly after the hour with the goal that ultimately secured a famous result for the Southeast Asians.

Blayney applauds Australia’s determination, Korea Republic's Park optimistic despite defeat

Tashkent: Australia head coach Leah Blayney was delighted to see her side finish third in the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2024 after edging Korea Republic in a difficult playoff on Saturday.

Blayney admitted her side passed a tough test, with the introduction of Milly Boughton and Lara Gooch in the second half paying dividends as the two combined to give Australia the 1-0 win.

Supersub Gooch powers Australia to third place

Tashkent: Australia ended their AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2024 campaign on a high note, defeating Korea Republic 1-0 in the third-place playoff at the JAR Stadium on Saturday.

The Young Matildas showed great resolve in the game, having come under sustained pressure for much of the game before substitute Lara Gooch came up with the winner late in the second half.
