AFC Social Responsibility Committee praises Asian football’s COVID-19 response
Kuala Lumpur: The response by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Member Associations (MA) and Regional Associations (RA) was celebrated and supported by the AFC’s Social Responsibility Committee at their second meeting of the 2019-2023 cycle, chaired by Zaw Zaw.
The AFC Social Responsibility Committee chairman, who himself has worked tirelessly to help communities in his native Myanmar, said: “I am sure that the work of this committee at this critical time of the COVID-19 pandemic has united communities across Asia and has contributed to saving many lives.
New competition dates approved by AFC Competitions Committee
Kuala Lumpur: The dates for the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the AFC Asian Cup China 2023, were approved by the AFC Competitions Committee at their third meeting for the 2019-2023 cycle, which was held online and chaired by Dr. Tran Quoc Tuan.
It was agreed that all the Asian Qualifiers Round 2 matches should be completed by June 15, 2021 with Match Day 7 and 8 in March 2021 and Match Day 9 and 10 in June 2021 with the Final Round of the Asian Qualifiers beginning in September 2021.
AFC Marketing Committee reinforces commitment to strengthen AFC brand
Kuala Lumpur: The passionate support and determination of Asian football was celebrated by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Marketing Committee at their second meeting, chaired by Dasho Ugen Tsechup, held online today.
The Committee chairperson reflected on a challenging year for world football in the face of the current COVID-19 pandemic and acknowledged ‘the AFC had to postpone and cancel several of our competitions as the health and safety of all our stakeholders took priority.’
AFC Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee approves new competition dates
Kuala Lumpur: Several key proposals shaping the future of Asia’s elite Futsal & Beach Soccer competitions were approved, as Chairperson Mehdi Taj oversaw the 1st Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal & Beach Soccer Committee meeting held online on Tuesday.
The Committee agreed to the proposal to move the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup Thailand 2021 from March 18 to 28 to April 28 to May 8 to allow Asia’s top 16 teams more time to prepare for the tournament, which also serves as the qualifiers for the Continent’s top three sides to represent Asia in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Russia 2021 in August.
AFC reiterates commitment to expand the impact of ‘fan-first’ strategy
Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation's (AFC) commitment to confirm football as the Continent’s number one sport, as outlined in its Vision and Mission, was further emphasised at the second meeting of the AFC Media and Communications Committee for the term 2019-2023 held online on Monday.
Chaired by Ganbaatar Amgalanbaatar, the Committee recognised remarkable progress of the ‘fan-first’ digital strategy, which has seen the engagement figures of the AFC’s digital platforms in 2020 surpass those achieved in 2019 – which also included the AFC Asian Cup record total engagement of 890.2 million.
AFC Technical Committee approves enhanced Grassroots Charter and Elite Youth Scheme
Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Technical Committee emphasised the importance of developing the next generation of Asian football players when it recommended an enhanced Grassroots Charter and the Elite Youth Scheme to the AFC Executive Committee’s next meeting.
The Committee also took important steps to protect as well as continue the improvement of the coaching standards in Asia by replacing the process of the AFC’s approval criteria of coaches at all levels of the game.
AFC Referees Committee underlines continued support to Asia’s match officials
Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Referees Committee praised the progress of Asian refereeing and reinforced its commitment to ensure the continued development of AFC match officials at its second meeting today.
In a virtual meeting, chaired by His Excellency (HE) Du Zhaocai, the AFC Referees Committee hailed the successful implementation of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, which marked its debut in the AFC Club Competitions from the Quarter-final stage of the 2020 AFC Champions League (West) in September.
