A former striker who faced multiple career-threatening injuries before the age of 18, Walsh overcame the odds to make her debut for the national team at 21 in 2004 and eventually etched her name in the history books when the Matildas emerged as champions of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup™ for the first time in 2010.

Bangkok: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s commitment to elevate women’s football on the Continent reached its latest milestone earlier this month when a four-day visit was conducted in Thailand under the AFC Women’s Assistance Programme (WAP). 

Led by the AFC Head of Women’s Football, Bai Lili, one of the primary goals of the visit was to assess and prepare the top clubs in the country ahead of the inaugural edition of the AFC Women’s Champions League in 2024.

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s efforts towards enhancing women’s football in Asia was further underlined when it conducted the AFC Online Session: Analysis and Discussion of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 on Tuesday to exchange knowledge and analyse the common trends that were noticed at the recently concluded global showpiece. 

With the AFC Women’s Champions League set to be launched in the 2024/25 season, the virtual session witnessed 110 participants from 37 AFC Member Associations (MAs), members of the AFC Technical Panel, as well as guests from CONMEBOL and CAF, convene to chart the way forward for the women’s game in Asia.

GFA receives valuable insights from AFC WAP visit

Barrigada: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) conducted an assessment visit to the Guam Football Association (GFA) as part of the AFC Women's Assistance Programme (WAP) from April 22-26, 2023, further underlining its resolve in becoming the leading Confederation in the world by maximising the capabilities of its Member Associations (MAs), particularly in women’s football. 

During the course of the visit, AFC’s Head of Women’s Football, Bai Lili, met with officials of the GFA, including the Association’s President Valentino San Gil, General Secretary Joseph Cepeda, and Vice-President and Chairperson of Women’s Committee, Tina Esteves, to share the AFC’s Women’s Football Development Plan and provide the GFA with the right tools to develop women’s football in the country, through the AFC WAP.
