Kerr stars as Chelsea see off Man City to win English women's FA Cup

London: Chelsea completed a Women's Super League and FA Cup double as Sam Kerr struck twice to see off Manchester City 3-2 in a thrilling final at Wembley after extra time on Sunday.

Emma Hayes' side exacted revenge for defeat to City in the League Cup final earlier this season, but were pushed all the way despite taking the lead three times.

Beirut: Lebanon’s Nejmeh SC return to the AFC Cup™ after a three-year absence with dreams of replicating, if not bettering, the successes of their mid-2000s side that finished runners-up in 2005 and reached back-to-back semi-finals in 2006 and 2007.

The Beirut-based side travel to Bahrain to take part in Group C alongside Syria’s Tishreen, Palestine’s Hilal Alquds and hosts East Riffa. Striker Mahmoud Siblini spoke to the-AFC.com ahead of the campaign.

Unbeaten Esteghlal end nine-year Iran Pro League title drought

Tehran: Esteghlal FC became Iran Pro League champions with three games remaining, claiming the title for the first time in nine years late on Saturday night.

A 2-1 win away to Foolad Khuzestan, coupled with second placed Persepolis’ defeat by the same margin at home to Sepahan, extended Esteghlal’s lead to nine points with three games remaining, with their superior head-to-head proving decisive. 

With 18 wins and nine matches from 27 matches this term, Farhad Majidi’s men are now three results away from remaining unbeaten throughout an entire league campaign; a feat never achieved by the club since the establishment of the Pro League.

Phu Tho: Vietnam and Indonesia confirmed their places in the Hanoi SEA Games men’s football semi-finals after sealing top two finishes in Group A on Sunday.  

Thailand and Myanmar, meanwhile, continued their undefeated run in their women’s football Group B campaign to advance to the semi-finals as well.
