Bahrain close in, Kuwait stay in semi-final race

Basra: Defending champions Bahrain moved within touching distance of the 2023 Gulf Cup semi-finals after a 2-1 win over Qatar in Group B on Tuesday.

Kuwait also stayed in the hunt for a last four spot after a 1-0 defeat of United Arab Emirates.

Wins for Iraq, Oman as Group A goes down to the wire

Basra: Iraq and Oman scored important wins on Monday to set up an exciting finish to Group A of the 2023 Gulf Cup.

Iraq defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 to move top of the standings ahead of Oman, who edged Yemen 3-2.
 
The victories took both teams to four points, with Saudi Arabia one adrift meaning they will have to defeat Oman in their final match while hosts Iraq will advance by avoiding a loss against eliminated Yemen.

Pathum Thani: Thailand will face Vietnam in the 2022 AFF Cup final after defeating Malaysia 3-0 in their semi-final second leg at the Thammasat Stadium on Tuesday.

Six-time champions Thailand advanced 3-1 on aggregate with Teerasil Dangda cancelling Malaysia’s first leg lead with his 19th minute strike with Bordin Phala and Adisak Kraisorn netting in the second half for a resounding win.

Park hails Vietnam for reaching final, Indonesia’s Shin looks ahead

Hanoi: Head coach Park Hang-seo was proud of his players and coaching staff after his Vietnam side beat Indonesia 2-0 to reach the 2022 AFF Cup final on Monday. 

Nguyen Tien Linh scored twice as Vietnam advanced 2-0 on aggregate, their first win in the AFF Cup over their Southeast Asian rivals since 1996.

Kuala Lumpur: Korean forward Hwang Hee-chan came off the bench to score the equaliser and earn Wolverhampton Wanderers a 2-2 draw against Liverpool in the third round of the English FA Cup on Saturday.

In the Netherlands, substitute Alireza Jahanbakhsh netted a late leveller for Feyenoord as the Dutch league returned following its winter break, while Lee Kang-in and Hwang In-beom starred for RCD Mallorca and Olympiacos in Spain and Greece respectively.

Australia's Ryan moves to Alkmaar

Alkmaar: Australia’s AFC Asian Cup™-winning goalkeeper Maty Ryan has joined Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, the Eredivise club has announced.

The 30-year-old, who won the continental title with the Socceroos in 2015 and has played 79 times for his country, has signed an 18-month contract with AZ after spending the previous year-and-a-half in Denmark with Copenhagen.
