Japan, Qatar shine; more teams arrive in Doha

Kuala Lumpur: Japan put on a fine performance in front of their home fans in Tokyo as they beat Thailand 5-0 in an international friendly match as they geared up towards the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™.

Qatar also showed that they are in fine form, handing Cambodia a 3-0 defeat while Lebanon, Oman and United Arab Emirates also achieved wins in their respective friendlies.

Mitoma named in Japan squad

Tokyo: Japan head coach Hajime Moriyasu has included Kaoru Mitoma in his squad for the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ despite injury concerns surrounding the Brighton & Hove Albion winger.

Mitoma was included in a 26-man squad that also features Arsenal’s Takehiro Tomiyasu, Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo and Real Sociedad playmaker Takefusa Kubo but missing FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 stars Ao Tanaka and Daichi Kamada.
