Qatar 2022 Watch: Son to Korea Republic's rescue against Costa Rica

Goyang: Son Heung-min scored a late free-kick to earn Korea Republic a 2-2 draw with fellow FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers Costa Rica as Paulo Bento’s side continued their preparations in Goyang on Friday.

Son’s strike from the edge of the penalty area came four minutes from time after Costa Rican goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado had been sent off for handling the ball outside the penalty area.
 
The Koreans had taken the lead in the first half through Hwang Hee-chan but goals in each half from Jewison Bennette looked set to take the Costa Ricans to victory until the Tottenham Hotspur forward intervened.

Brisbane: Awer Mabil struck from distance to earn Australia a 1-0 win over New Zealand in Brisbane on Thursday to stake his claim to a place in the Socceroos’ starting line-up when Graham Arnold’s side feature at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Finals.

Mabil beat Oli Sail from distance in the 32nd minute with the only goal of a game that marked the 100th anniversary of Australia’s first-ever international and was the Socceroos last on home soil before travelling to Qatar in November.
