AFC and Asian stars inspire fans to maintain fitness with new #StayActive campaign

Kuala Lumpur: With millions staying at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) along with some of Asia’s biggest stars have today launched a new campaign – #StayActive – to inspire fans to maintain their fitness while emphasising the importance of their physical and mental wellbeing. 

Kicking-off the series are three familiar faces who also featured in the AFC’s highly-acclaimed #BreakTheChain campaign – Islamic Republic of Iran and Persepolis FC’s Alireza Beiranvand, India and JSW Bengaluru’s Gurpreet Singh and 2018 AFC Women’s Player of the Year Wang Shuang from China PR, who are now providing fans with unique insights to their fitness regimes.

AFC President hails Asia’s ‘guiding lights’ as more than 100 stars pledge to #BreakTheChain

Kuala Lumpur: Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President, today thanked the 100 players, officials and match officials who have contributed to promote the World Health Organization’s (WHO) messaging during the current COVID-19 crisis.

The AFC President described the Member Associations, the players, officials and match officials, who have led the AFC’s #BreakTheChain campaign, as ‘guiding lights during these dark and challenging times.’

The 100th person to join the much-heralded campaign was Ali Mabkhout from the United Arab Emirates and the AFC has reached that number in just over 10 days – the first 50 signing up in just 48 hours to promote the messages of the highest standards of hygiene, social distancing and, where Governments have stipulated, staying at home.

Kuala Lumpur: Jordan and Al-Jazeera right back Feras Zeyad Shilbaya, Singapore’s national team centurion Baihakki Khaizan and Laos midfielder Phoutdavy Phommasane are the latest stars to feature in the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) #BreakTheChain series. 

The trio are among 130 Asian icons and officials from 40 Member Associations who have joined forces to raise awareness on health and personal hygiene guidelines put in place by the World Health Organization (WHO) to stop the transmission of COVID-19.

Yoshida adds star power in latest #BreakTheChain video

Kuala Lumpur: Japan national team captain and Sampdoria defender Maya Yoshida is the latest Asian stalwart to urge communities to do their part in the battle against COVID-19 in the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) #BreakTheChain campaign. 

Yoshida, who helped Japan lift the 2011 AFC Asian Cup and finished runner-up in the 2019 edition in the UAE, joins more than 130 Asian icons and officials from 42 Member Associations to emphasise the importance of following the World Health Organization’s (WHO) health and physical distancing guidelines.
