Bacolod City: Rimyongsu booked their place in the finals of the 2014 AFC President’s Cup with an emphatic 5-0 win over Tatung Company that saw the North Korean debutants through to September’s historic event at the expense of Group B hosts Ceres La Salle.
Ceres succumbed to stoppage-time Suleymen Muhadov strike to go down 2-1 to Group B winners FC HTTU in the earlier match at the Panaad Stadium, a result that opened the door for Rimyongsu to advance to the finals alongside the table-topping Turkmen.
And the North Koreans went about their task with ruthless efficiency, taking the lead after just seven minutes through a Jang Song-hyok penalty before Jong Il-gwan’s effort four minutes from the interval gave Rimyongsu a comfortable cushion to take into the second half.
Ri Hyok-chol extended the lead six minutes after the restart before Pak Song-chol put the gloss on the victory with two goals in a two-minute spell, with the Rimyongsu skipper scoring in the 86th and 88th minutes.
