Amman: The Asian Football Confederation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with The Asian Football Development Project (AFDP) and One World Futbol Project (OWFP) on Sunday for a greater cooperation on a number of development projects in Asia.
Chairman of the AFC Social Responsibility Committee HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, CEO of AFDP Urs Zanitti and OWFP Director of Asia Stephen Sonderman inked the agreement amid a function held in Amman.
The purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is to establish a framework in which all three parties can cooperate to maximize impact through football.
One of the programmes of the project is to distribute over 83,000 footballs donated by OWFP to those projects which use football as a platform for social development. AFC and AFDP will identify the recipient organisations including Member Associations, NGOs and schools across the continent.
“Collaboration is absolutely crucial to address social challenges especially in a continent as large and diverse as ours,” said Prince Ali who also serves as FIFA Vice President and Chairman of AFDP.
“On behalf of both AFC and AFDP, I’d like to thank OWFP for enabling us to reach out to a larger number of youth in areas where development is most needed,” he added.
OWFP director Sonderman also hailed the signing and shared the excitement of working with AFC and AFDP to help the disadvantaged youth of the continent.
“OWFP is excited to bring the healing power of play to disadvantaged youth across Asia through the distribution of One World Futbols,” said Sonderman.
OWFP is a social venture corporation that strives to make a meaningful impact on the lives of youth around the world through distribution of the One World Futbol with the goal of bringing the joy of football and play to youth in disadvantaged communities.
