Nanjing: The AFC Social Responsibility Committee vowed to continue its good work during its meeting under the chairmanship of Korea Republic’s Dr. Kwak Chung-hwan on Thursday.
Praising AFC Acting President Zhang Jilong’s role, Dr. Kwak said AFC’s Social Responsibility Committee had a prominent role in social development.
“Mr. Jilong has always been on the frontline to enhance AFC’s commitment of community development and we have a responsibility to achieve this goal,” he said.
“We have to discuss and decide on sustainable community development programmes and football for disabled persons. We need to help AFC’s Member Associations and non-governmental organisations.”
He also highlighted the 'Asian football against hunger’ campaign saying, “We will have to help local community-driven projects to continue our fight against hunger because it’s a long-term mission.”
The committee approved further research to develop a ‘character-building education through sports’ programme in partnership with the Seoul National University’s Institute of Sports Science and sanctioned financial assistance to Cambodia’s Sport and Leadership Training Academy, Nepal’s Saathi and the Philippines’ grassroots and youth football programme.
The members also discussed the social responsibility activities in conjunction with AFC events next year, guidelines for the AFC Social Responsibility Relief Fund, appointment of a Dream Asia Ambassador and organisation of a Dream Asia Cerebral Palsy Tournament.
