Nilai: Hong Kong ended their inaugural AFC Women’s Futsal Championship campaign in third place ahead of Uzbekistan of on goal difference after the two sides played out a 3-3 in their final Group A fixture on Wednesday.
The Uzbeks appeared to be heading towards their first victory until Hong Kong skipper Kwong Wing Yan’s last-minute equaliser earned the East Asians a share of the spoils after trailing 3-1 following a blistering spell of Uzbekistan dominance that saw Avaz Maksumov’s score three times in two minutes at the start of the second period.
Kwong had given Hong Kong a 14th minute lead with the only goal of the first half and the East Asians held the advantage until the 22nd minute when Mahliyo Yusupova drew the Uzbeks level before two goals in the 24th minute minute from Feruza Turdiboeva and Makhliyo Sarikova - her fourth of the competition - turned the tide of the match in the Central Asians favour.
Ng Wing Kum pulled one back for Hong Kong in the 31st minute and with just seconds remaining before the final buzzer, Kwong struck the goal that saw her side end their campaign in third, with the Uzbeks left counting the cost of conceding nine times against both Iran and tournament hosts Malaysia in their earlier matches.
