Nilai: Japan began the quest to add the inaugural AFC Women’s Futsal Championship title to their three consecutive Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games gold medals with a 4-2 win over Vietnam in the second Group B match of the historic tournament.
Japan, Asian Indoor Games women’s futsal winners in 2007, 2009, and most recently 2013 in Incheon, took a three-goal cushion into the interval after a fifth-minute Chikage Kichibayashi penalty was supplemented by further goals from Maiko Higashiyama (10th) and Akari Takao (12th).
Four minutes into the second period Kichibayashi scored her second of the match before a late double from Nguyen Thi Chau (34th, 39th) saw the Vietnamese half the deficit.
