Zurich: The recent successes of Afghanistan in the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 qualifiers have seen them making the biggest move in the latest edition of the FIFA World Ranking.
After securing a qualification in the 2014 Challenge Cup to be held in the Maldives, Afghanistan have climbed 48 places to 141st. Also climbing up the ladder are fellow qualifiers Palestine (three places up to the 150th position) and Myanmar (nine places up to the 155th position).
In the recently held AFC Challenge Cup 2014 qualifiers, Afghanistan defeated Sri Lanka and Mongolia by identical 1-0 scores, but were held by hosts Laos 1-1, to qualify for the tournament proper as Group C leaders.
Afghanistan will join fellow group winners Palestine and Myanmar while two other groups are scheduled to start later this month. The five group winners along with the two best second-placed sides and hosts Maldives will feature in the 2014 edition of the Cup.
The 2014 winners of the AFC Challenge Cup will participate in the AFC Asian Cup 2015 to be held in Australia.
