Ardiyah: Al Qadsia lifted the Kuwait Super Cup on Friday after a dramatic 3-2 win over fellow AFC Cup quarter-finalists Kuwait SC.
A late rally from reigning AFC Cup champions and Emir Cup holders Kuwait SC proved a case of too little too late, as Qadsia emerged victorious to add the Super Cup title to the Premier League crown they won last season.
Bader Al Mutwa opened the scoring after 22 minutes, before summer signing Danijel Subotic superbly weaved his way through the Kuwait SC defence and finished with aplomb to extend Qadsia's lead on the stroke of half-time.
Rafael Bastos reduced the deficit after the break, the Brazilian import, who joined Kuwait SC on loan from Bulgarian side Levski Sofia last month, heading home in the 63rd minute to register his first competitive goal for his new employers.
Six minutes later, Al Mutwa bagged his second of the night to duly restore Qadsia's two-goal-cushion.
Kuwait SC rallied late on, and despite having Iran international Reza Ghoochannejhad booked, they gave themselves a glimmer of hope when Sherida Khalid Shraideh struck with four minutes remaining.
Qadsia were not be denied however, as they hung on claim a fourth Super Cup success.
Both sides will be in AFC Cup quarter-final leg action on Tuesday. Qadsia face Bahrain's Al Hidd at home, while Kuwait SC, winners of the competition in 2009, 2012 and 2013, entertain Indonesian outfit Persipura Jayapura.
The second legs will take place a week later.
