Yuri Kawamuru opened the scoring 36 minutes into the Group C match at Stadium Bela Vista before second-half goals from Kumi Yokoyama (54th) and 2014 L-League top scorer Yuika Sugasawa (79th) sealed Japan’s win. Reigning FIFA Women’s World Cup champions Japan, who won the Algarve Cup in 2012 with Sugasawa scoring in the 2-0 win over Denmark in the final, will round off their group stage campaign against France on Monday. Meanwhile China, Asia’s other representatives in this year’s Algarve Cup, couldn’t build on their creditable goalless draw with Brazil in their Group A opener as the East Asians went down 2-0 to reigning European champions Germany.
