Shanghai: André Villas-Boas has replaced Sven-Göran Eriksson as coach of Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG.
The Portuguese managed Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg from 2014, leading the club to the 2014-2015 Russian Premier League - their fifth title, the 2015-2016 Russian Cup and 2015 Russian Super Cup.
Villas-Boas also had stints with English clubs Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Shanghai SIPG have yet to win in the top flight Chinese Super League, having come close in 2015 as runners-up. They are now third in standings, 12 points behind leaders and two-time AFC Champions League champions Guangzhou Evergrande.
On the continental stage, Shanghai reached the quarter-finals of the current edition of the AFC Champions League where they lost 5-0 on aggregate to eventual finalists Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors of Korea Republic.
