Bento expects normal service from Korea Republic in regional meet
Ulsan: The likes of Son Heung-min and Hwang Hee-chan may not be a part of the Korea Republic squad but the target for the Taeguk Warriors in the 2019 EAFF E-1 Championship will be the same - playing their best.
Head coach Paulo Bento's squad for the regional tournament consists of players who play their club football in Korea Republic, China and Japan.
The lone exception is Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Hwang In-beom while the Europe-based players were not called up to allow them to focus on their club commitments.
Korea Republic fall to Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Paraguay settle for draw
Abu Dhabi: Korea Republic had to concede to Brazil's superiority as the South Americans ended a run of five games without a win by easing to a 3-0 victory in a friendly in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday with Philippe Coutinho scoring the pick of the goals.
Coutinho, currently on loan at Bayern Munich from Barcelona, curled a free-kick from 22 yards high into the net to put Brazil 2-0 up after 35 minutes.
Before that he had played a part in the opener, producing some delightful footwork to pick out Renan Lodi, whose cross from the left was headed in from close range by AC Milan midfielder Lucas Paqueta.
Beirut: Captain Son Heung-min and forward Hwang Ui-jo have apologised for not putting their chances away after Korea Republic were held to a 0-0 draw by Lebanon in their Asian Qualifiers Group H match on Thursday.
It was the East Asians second draw, having been held 0-0 by DPR Korea in Pyongyang last month, but Son and Hwang admitted that the Taeguk Warriors should have taken full points against Lebanon.
