Bhutan make men’s final, boost for India ahead of women’s decider
Kathmandu: Bhutan registered a comfortable win on Saturday as they sealed their place in the 2019 South Asian Games men's football final.
Bhutan cruised past Sri Lanka 3-0 to move to nine points from four matches and they will play either Nepal or Bangladesh in Tuesday's final.
Hosts Nepal defeated Maldives 2-1 and play Bangladesh on Sunday with one foot in the final. Nepal are on seven points with a +5 goal difference and Bangladesh - on four points - need to win by six clear goals to make thein the final.
In the women’s event, India edged Nepal 1-0 in a dress rehearsal for Monday's final while Maldives defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 for their first win.
Bhutan stay on track as India, Nepal seal spots in women's final
Kathmandu: Bhutan boosted their hopes of making the 2019 South Asian Games men's football final with a 2-1 win over Maldives while Bangladesh registered their first win of the tournament, defeating Sri Lanka 1-0 on Thursday.
In the women's event, India scored an emphatic 6-0 win over Sri Lanka while Nepal defeated Maldives 3-0 as both teams sealed their places in the final with a match to spare.
Kathmandu: Sri Lanka denied Nepal a second successive win, scoring a stoppage time goal to salvage a 1-1 draw in their 2019 South Asian Games men's football tie at the Dasarath Rangasala Stadium on Wednesday.
The result was a blow for Nepal, who looked good value for the three points. The hosts, however, stayed top of the standings with four points after having defeated Bhutan 4-0 on Tuesday.
