Seoul: The 2013 Korea Republic league will see the introduction of promotion and relegation for the first time as the top flight of Korean domestic football undergoes a significant overhaul.
Korea's top division has been renamed 'K League Classic' while the second division adopts the title of K League.
The 2013 K League consists of eight teams, including Gwangju FC and Sangju Sangmu who finished bottom of the 2012 K League, while 14 teams will compete in the K League Classic.
The bottom two sides from the K League Classic will be relegated while the team that finishes 12th in the top flight table faces a playoff with 2013 K League champions.
FC Seoul won the last edition of the K League and the Korean champions will be joined in this year's AFC Champions League by former ACL winners Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors (2006), Pohang Steelers (2009) and Suwon Samsung Bluewings, who were the last team to claim the Asian Club Championship and Asian Super Cup titles in 2002 prior to the introduction of the AFC Champions League the following year.
