Hong Kong: DPR Korea edged closer to punching the only ticket available in Group H qualifiers for the AFC U-14 Championship 2014 finals after whipping Mongolia 8-0 at Mongkok Stadium on Tuesday.
Striker Jong In-sok opened the floodgates of goals as early as the second minute before Wong U-son, Paek Kwang-min and Yun Min (scored a double) added salt to injury on the Mongolians with their goals.
Three substitutes came on field during the second half and contributed to the barrage of goals with Kung Jin-song, Ri Song-jin and Kim Hwi-hwang on target on 42, 41 and 47 minutes respectively.
Group leaders DPR Korea must win in their last match against Macau on Wednesday to advance to the tournament proper, or at least lose the game but score more than three goals to keep the finals ticket out of reach of close contenders Japan.
The Mongolians, who are out of contention already for the finals, will be up against hosts Hong Kong in their final match on Wednesday.
Standings:
DPR Korea – 9 points
Japan – 9 points
Hong Kong – 3 points
Mongolia – 3 points
Macau – 0 point
