Kuala Lumpur: Penang star Faiz Subri has made the final list of three nominees for FIFA’s Puskas Award thanks to the brilliant free-kick he scored during a Malaysia Super League game in February.
Faiz scored twice against Pahang at the Bandaraya Stadium to inspire his side to a win, but it was his second that saw him become a household name overnight.
Standing over a set-piece on the left wing some 35 yards from goal, it looked as though the attacking midfielder would float a cross into the box, where he had several teammates waiting to connect.
However, Faiz had other ideas as he proceeded to unleash an incredible effort that initially veered left but then swerved and dipped to the right before finding the top corner and newspaper headlines across the world.
