Seoul: Lee Chung-yong struck three minutes from time as Korea Republic came from a goal down to Switzerland 2-1 on Friday as the East Asians ended the 14-match unbeaten run of their fellow 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Bolton Wanderers winger netted the winner in the 87th minute after Hong Jeong-ho’s 14th minute header had drawn the Koreans level following Pajtim Kasami’s opener seven minutes earlier.
The victory over the in-form Europeans also ensured that the Taeguek Warriors had recorded back-to-back wins for the first time in 15 months following their 3-1 friendly triumph over Mali.
October’s win over the Eagles saw Lee reach the half century of appearances for the Korea Republic national team and the former FC Seoul star marked the occasion by setting up two of his side’s three goals.
