Singapore: More than 100 schoolchildren had a ball of a time at the launch of the Football Association of Singapore Cubs Grassroots Programme at Jalan Besar Stadium recently.
The children, aged between six and 12, took to the pitch to explore the various coaching stations promoting fun football and life’s social values.
Spearheaded by FAS Vice President Bernard Tan, overseen by FAS Technical Director Michel Sablon and Julie Teo, General Manager for Grassroots and Women’s Football, the programme was the national association’s project to encourage more children to enjoy and learn to play the beautiful game.
It gave the children the opportunity to establish life skills while promoting family and community bonding, a healthy lifestyle and positive character-building values.
The programme also sought to build a foundation towards unearthing talents for the national age group teams and eventually, the national team.
Four centres offering the Cubs Programme – Sembawang Primary, Queensway Secondary which is an all-girls training centre only, Serangoon Stadium and Admiralty Primary were introduced since April 5
A fifth centre was opened on August 16 at Bowen Secondary. Like Queensway Secondary, it will be an all-girls centre and is open to all female students from the neighbouring primary schools located around the Bowen area.
