Doha: All four teams will head into the final round of matches in Group B of the 2019 Gulf Cup on Monday very much in the running for semi-final spots.

Defending champions Oman lead with four points, one ahead of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait while Bahrain have a point to their name.

AFC Executive Committee enhances future AFC Asian Cups

Hong Kong: The Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) commitment towards upgrading its competitions to the highest possible levels continued at the AFC Executive Committee meeting in Hong Kong on Sunday with further measures aimed at enhancing the AFC Asian Cup.

Chaired by the AFC President, Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the Executive Committee agreed that the hosts for the future AFC Asian Cups should be given more preparation time in the future – with the 2027 hosts being appointed as soon as possible.

The AFC President said: “At the AFC 29th Congress in Paris, we chose the People’s Republic of China as the next hosts of the AFC Asian Cup in 2023. And I know that China PR will deliver a world class event – in keeping with the stature of the AFC Asian Cup.

Much at stake in Qatar, UAE rematch

Doha: A place in 2019 Gulf Cup semi-finals will be at stake when hosts Qatar face UAE in their final Group A match at Khalifa International Stadium on Monday.

It will be a rematch of their meeting in the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 semi-final which Qatar won 4-0 before going on to clinch the title.

Both are on three points heading into Monday's match, with Qatar only needing a draw to advance to the last four on goal difference.

Group B: Oman beat Kuwait, Saudi Arabia back on track

Doha: Defending champions Oman scored twice in the first half to edge Kuwait 2-1 in Group B of the 2019 Gulf Cup at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium on Saturday.

Saudi Arabia bounced back from their opening defeat against Kuwait to defeat Bahrain 2-0 as the race for Group B's semi-final spots will be decided on Monday.

Group A: Iraq defeat UAE, Qatar bounce back

Doha: Iraq registered their second consecutive win in Group A of the 2019 Gulf Cup, defeating United Arab Emirates 2-0 at the Khalifa International Stadium on Friday.

Qatar bounced back from their 2-1 loss to Iraq with an emphatic 6-0 win over Yemen in the group's evening match.

The win confirmed Iraq's place in the semi-finals as they now top the group with six points while UAE and Qatar will face off on Monday to decide the second team to advance to the last four stage.

Group B: Kuwait stun Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman draw

Doha: Kuwait enjoyed a bright start to their 2019 Gulf Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory against Saudi Arabia at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium on Wednesday.

Defending champions Oman were held to a goalless draw by Bahrain in the other Group B match with both teams failing to put away their chances.

Group A: Iraq down Qatar, UAE cruise past Yemen

Doha: A Mohammed Qasim brace steered Iraq to a 2-1 win against Qatar in the opening match of the 2019 Gulf Cup at Khalifa International Stadium on Tuesday.

Ali Mabkhout scored a hat-trick as United Arab Emirates defeated Yemen 3-0 to move to the top of the Group A standings as the 24th edition of the tournament got off to a spectacular start.
