Paris: Japan international defender Hiroki Sakai has completed a move to Marseille, the French side announced on Thursday.
Sakai joins the Ligue 1 outfit – on a reported four-year deal - from Hannover where he played for four seasons before being released following the club’s recent relegation from Germany’s top-flight.
Sakai becomes the second Japanese player to have played for Marseille, and he follows in the footsteps of Koji Nakata who was at the Stade Velodrome between 2005 and 2006.
The talented 26-year-old, a regular for Kashiwa Reysol during his time in Japan, has featured 27 times for his country after making his international debut in 2012.
