Kathmandu: Defending champions India started their South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship with a scrappy 1-0 win over arch-rival Pakistan on Sunday.
In the match played at the Dashrath Stadium of Kathmandu, an own goal from Pakistani captain Samar Ishaq was enough for the Indians to register win in their first Group A match.
Hosts Nepal, who had defeated Bangladesh 2-0 in the opener on Saturday, top Group A ahead of India while Pakistan and Bangladesh are pointless.
Both the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 participating Afghanistan and Maldives are playing on Monday. Afghanistan face Bhutan at the Halchowk Stadium while the Maldives take on Sri Lanka at the Dashrath Stadium.
