Kuala Lumpur: Oceania Football Confederation Medical Committee Chairman Dr. Tony Edwards will be a main speaker who will delve into football players’ injuries at the 4th AFC Conference on Science and Football Medicine here in Malaysia’s capital on 18-20 March 2011.
The New Zealander’s symposium presentations will be entitled “Difficult Stress Fracture in Footballers” and “Differential Diagnosis of Exertional Shin/Calf Pain”, both on March 20.
In the former, Dr. Edwards will talk about the more common stress fractures seen in footballers especially the issues associated with the management of difficult stress fractures.
In the latter talk, Dr. Edwards will probe into calf and shin pain which is common in footballers and how arriving at the correct diagnosis helps physicians plan the best management.
The New Zealand Football Medical Director will also chair a keynote presentation on the fight against doping in football and conduct a workshop during the conference.
Dr Edwards is a specialist Sports Physician and a founding partner in Unisports Centre for Sports Medicine in Auckland, New Zealand and has been a member of the Medical Committee of FIFA since 2006.
The prevention of sudden cardiac deaths through pre-competition medical assessments, playing football in the heat, age determination of players, new strategies in the fight against doping as well as fasting and playing are among the highlight topics of the world-renowned conference.
