Late goals from Zur’ain Kamarudin and Norhawa Md Yasin ensured Malaysia opened their Kuala Lumpur 2017 SEA Games women’s futsal campaign with three points after beating Myanmar 2-1. Myanmar and Malaysia - the 2011 and 2013 bronze medallists respectively - are aiming to outdo their past performances to claim gold for their countries. Myanmar made a statement right from the beginning, with Pa Pa Win securing an early lead after scoring just two minutes into the match. Malaysia held majority of the possession and attempts on goal, but struggled to find openings to penetrate through Myanmar’s defence. After the restart, the host nation returned more energetic and their persistence was rewarded four minutes from time when Zur’ain Kamarudin hit home to bring the score level, before Norhawa Md Yasin scored the winner a minute later.
