Going back to where it all began in Manila, what better way to celebrate the Asian Football Confederation’s 60th Anniversary celebrations and Annual Awards night than with a line-up of star-studded performances by homegrown talent in the form of Philippines sweetheart Lea Salonga and popstar Gary Valenciano.
Fresh out of Europe after a stint on Il Divo’s Musical Affair Tour, Salonga will be in Manila to perform a new song with the same style and panache that has seen her win the coveted Tony and Laurence Olivier awards.
Solanga, who is the singing voice of Jasmine and Fa Mulan from Disney’s animated movies Aladdin and Mulan, has also performed for the likes of Queen Elizabeth II, George Bush and Bill Clinton.
Joining the glitz and glamour of the night is Valenciano. Better known in the industry as Gary V, the ABS-CBN actor is currently active in dramatic roles for soap operas and in-house films under the prestigious local television network.
Valenciano, who has picked up over two dozen music awards in his career, will be performing his inspirational “Shout for Joy” as part of the Philippines tribute segment of the evening to remember the disastrous Typhoon Haiyan that hit Philippines late last year.
As well as appearances from Salonga and Valenciano, the theme song 'One Game, One Asia' - which was composed by Francis de Veyra - will be performed by a celebrated cast of talented musicians namely Primo, Nicole Asensio, Kettle Mata, Princess Ybaznez and Powerdance.
In addition, the AFC’s friends from Uzbekistan will also be entertaining the crowd and give them a taste of Central Asia’s truly charming, mystical and unique cultures through rhythmic sights and sounds, fitting with AFC’s historical milestone.
