Doha: Lekhwiya made it three league titles on last four seasons after defeating Um Salal 2-1 to lift the Qatar Stars League title on Friday.
The ACL 2014 contenders mustered 53 points from 24 matches taking an inaccessible nine points lead over second-placed and fellow ACL participating El Jaish with just two matches remaining in the season.
Korea Republic international Nam Tae-hee and Slovakian Vladimir Weiss scored a goal apiece in the first half. Um Salal pegged one back in the 90th minute from Nadiya Ibrahima but Lekhwiya hold their nerves to record the hard-fought win.
The Eric Gerets’ star-studded Qatari side are still in contention for the knockout stages of ACL 2014 after accumulating four points from three matches in Group C.
They started the campaign with a defeat on road but bounced back in the competition after holding Iranian Tractorsazi at home and pulling a famous win over former champions Al Ittihad.
The return leg of the Al Ittihad double header will be played on Wednesday.
