Kuala Lumpur: The AFC has announced the appointment of Limonta Sport as its exclusive partner for the Mini Pitch Scheme.
The scheme is part of the AFC President’s Initiatives for Asian Football which was launched in June 2014.
The introduction of the Mini Pitch Scheme is aimed at increasing the number of facilities available for grassroots and community football throughout Asia and 17 Member Associations will benefit from a project in the next two years.
The AFC Mini Pitch Partner is responsible for the construction of the mini pitches for each project. Limonta Sport has manufactured and distributed synthetic turf since 1979, becoming a FIFA Preferred Producer in 2009, and having a network of more than 50 partners all over the world including subsidiaries in Spain, United Kingdom, USA, China and Paraguay. Limonta Sport has collaborated with several AFC Member Associations to complete the construction of FIFA Goal Projects in Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Iran.
AFC President, Shaikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, has expressed his delight at the appointment of Limonta Sport as the AFC Mini Pitch Partner, and said that he is looking forward to the scheme being carried out successfully.
“Limonta Sport is a very experienced partner and has a very good track record to match our aspirations for the scheme. With this appointment, I am confident that we are getting closer towards overcoming some of the challenges faced by our Member Associations in the key area of infrastructure,” stated Shaikh Salman.
According to Paolo Limonta, President of Limonta Sport, the company’s commitment to and interest in Asia started more than 20 years ago, and its efforts have led Limonta Sport to become a trustworthy name throughout the continent.
“Being the AFC Mini Pitch Partner is a great achievement for us. We now have the possibility to collaborate with the AFC in high quality facility development for football all over Asia, a duty that we are going to carry out with energy and enthusiasm in order to deliver remarkable results to the Member Associations involved in the initiative,” he added.
For the project, each mini pitch will consist of the playing surface and sub-base, surrounding walls, containing nets, mini goals and lights.
