Shah Alam: Malaysia took a giant step towards their first ever gold when they beat Indonesia 5-0 in the Kuala Lumpur 2017 SEA Games men’s futsal at the Panasonic Sports Complex on Tuesday.
On a high after beating defending champions Thailand 4-2 in their opener, Indonesia were brought down to earth as they could not match Malaysia’s pace and aggression throughout the match.
Malaysia, who drew with Vietnam in their last match, found the breakthrough in the 12th minute through Ridzuan. After some quick exchanges in his half, the midfielder sprinted past his marker to hit the back of the net.
Nine minutes into the restart, the floodgates opened and Malaysia turned on the style as they found their rhythm.
Ridzuan doubled the lead in the 29th minute when he hit the back of the net following a cross into Indonesia’s penalty area.
Azri’s goal followed suit after a neat one-two from a free-kick which he blasted through the Indonesia wall. A minute later Awalluddin tapped in number four following quick passes in midfield.
Khairul Effendy added the fifth, scoring from his own half as the visitors had committed bodies upfront, including goalkeeper Muhammad Albagir.
Malaysia play Thailand in their final match on August 27.
