Doha: Former Swansea manager Michael Laudrup has been appointed the head coach of Qatari club Lekhwiya with immediate effect, the club has announced.
The 50-year-old Dane was sacked by English Premier League club Swansea in February and has been out of a job since.
The details of Laudrup’s contract will be announced later, the club’s website further stated.
The former Barcelona and Real Madrid midfielder was unsure what he would do after his contract with Lekhwiya expires.
“I'm now entering my final phase as a coach,” Laudrup told Danish newspaper Politiken.
“Although whether Lekhwiya will be my final or penultimate club I can't say. And I don't know either whether this phase while last two, three of four years. The answer is blowing in the wind.”
Doha-based Lekhwiya are the Qatari champions and were previously managed by Belgian Eric Gerets who has gone on to manage UAE outfit Al Jazira.
Lekhwiya played in the group stages of this year’s AFC Champions League but they crashed out after finishing third in their group having won only two out of six matches played.
