Ho Chi Minh: Thailand opened their AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship ASEAN region campaign with a 3-2 victory over Myanmar thanks to an opponents’ own goal at Thong Nhat Stadium on Tuesday.
Thai striker Pradthana Songkram drew first blood as early as the 7th minute before Thin Thin Yu equalised two minutes later.
Nuengrutai Srathongvian’s Thai side then took an easy lead as Myanmar defender Zin Zin Naing bulged her own net on 14 minutes.
Thin the equaliser repeated her levelling feat and evened the scoreline at 2-2 as she completed her brace on 35 minutes before Songkram completed hers on 43 minutes and secured the 3-2 win.
In the other two opening day matches, Vietnam and the Philippines cruised to a 7-1 victory each over Malaysia and Cambodia respectively.
Zin Mar Wann’s Myanmar will play their second match in the inaugural girls’ regional competition against Cambodia while the Thais entertain Malaysia on Wednesday.
