Beijing: Guam kept their semi-final hopes alive in the AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship 2013 for the East region after beating Northern Mariana Islands 3-0 at the Chinese National Football Training Centre on Wednesday.
Forward Colleen Naden, who scored Guam’s lone goal against Korea Republic on Tuesday, got in a brace against their Pacific Ocean neighbours on 26 and 31 minutes in their Group A match.
Aubrienne Pangindian scored the last goal for Samuel San Gil’s side on the 44th minute mark in the 70+2-minute match.
Guam are now sitting on three points in third spot in the four-nation group and will finish their campaign on Thursday against group leaders China PR, who in Wednesday’s other match beat Korea Republic 5-0 and therefore qualified for the semis.
The Guam girls still have a chance to advance to the semi-finals but they have to beat the formidable Chinese in the group’s last game and leapfrog Korea Republic to second spot to achieve that feat.
Winless Northern Mariana Islands led by head coach Tang Chi Ming are at the bottom of the group, are already out of reckoning, and will play Korea Republic in their last game also on Thursday.
Group A standings as of Wednesday:
China – 6 points
Korea Republic – 3 points
Guam – 3 points
Northern Marina Islands – 0 points
