October return for football in Iraq

Baghdad: The Iraqi Football Association Normalisation Committee announced on Wednesday that the 2020-21 season will kick off in October.  

The committee said the Iraqi Premier League will kick off on October 25 with the participation of 20 teams.

“The competition will be played on a home and away basis while the official draw of the new season will be held on September 29, a day before the draw of the local cup,” added the committee.

'Anything possible' for Li Ke who made Chinese football history

Shanghai: In March 2015, London-born Nico Yennaris played for Wycombe Wanderers in the fourth tier of English football in front of 2,362 people.

Fast forward and the midfielder is now called Li Ke, he has a Chinese passport and plays for China PR, trying to help them reach the FIFA World Cup for only the second time in their history.

Iraq's Resan extends Persepolis contract

Tehran: Midfielder Bashar Resan has extended his contract with Iran Pro League champions Persepolis for another two years.

The extension ends speculation that Iraqi Resan was set to move to a club in Qatar and is a boost for Persepolis ahead of the resumption of the 2020 AFC Champions League next week.

Resan, 24, joined Persepolis in 2017 and has won three Iran Pro League titles, a Hazfi Cup and a Super Cup.
