Muscat: AFC Asian Cup 2015 hopefuls Oman were consigned to their second defeat in four days as they lost 3-0 at home to a Luis Suarez-inspired Uruguay on Monday.
Oman, who were beaten 4-3 by Costa Rica last Friday, went into the break on level terms before Barcelona striker Suarez, having been allowed too much time and space in the penalty area, fired home past goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi shortly before the hour mark.
Uruguay doubled their lead ten minutes later when former Liverpool favourite Suarez again found the target, this time courtesy of a sublime chip over the advancing Al Habsi.
Jonathan Rodriguez scored for the visitors late on to put the result beyond doubt and leave Oman coach Paul Le Guen with plenty to ponder as he prepares his side for their continental challenge in Australia next January.
At the AFC Asian Cup itself, Oman have been placed in Group A where they will face Australia, Korea Republic and Kuwait.
They will open their campaign against Korea Republic at Canberra Stadium on January 10.
