Jakarta: The Netherlands proved too strong for 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualifying Group C side Indonesia as the ASEAN side were defeated 3-0 in a one-sided international friendly on Friday.
The Oranje had the ball in the net just 60 seconds into the match at the Gelora Bung Karno only for the goal to be ruled out after Wesley Sneijder was in an offside position when he turned in the loose ball after Robin Van Persie’s header had been saved.
The Dutch dominated possession and chances but the 2010 FIFA World Cup runners-up had to wait until 12 minutes into the second-half to take the lead with substitute Siem De Jong headed home the opener before the Ajax midfielder made it 2-0 ten minutes later when another header made its way through the Indonesia defence.
Arjen Robben, who provided the assist for the first goal, sealed the win in the last minute when he cut inside two defenders before drilling the ball into the roof of the net to seal the win.
Indonesia are currently at the foot of Australia 2015 Group C standings after the first two rounds of matches following defeats to Iraq (1-0) and Saudi Arabia (2-1), who ironically contested the 2007 AFC Asian Cup final in Jakarta with the Iraqis emerging triumphant.
