Nay Pyi Taw: Malaysia sealed their second win in their campaign to qualify for the AFC U-14 Championship 2014 after beating the Philippines 2-0 at Wunna Theik Stadium in Myanmar on Friday.
The Malaysians clinched their first win over Myanmar on Group E opening day on Tuesday before drawing 0-0 with Timor Leste the next day.
It took the junior Tigers 35 minutes to score their first goal against the Filipinos through midfielder Muhammad Izreen Izwandy before substitute Muhammad Hadi Fayyadh Abdul Razak, who scored one of the goals against Myanmar, found the Azkals’ net three minutes from time.
The Malaysians now sit in top spot in the group on seven points and are hoping that Timor Leste trailing just below on four points will lose their game against Brunei Darussalam in the afternoon to remain on top with a safe margin.
K. Gunalan's Malaysian side will face the Bruneians on June 2 while the Eliezer Obias Fabroada-led Filipinos are up against Vietnam.
The results of the ongoing Group E and also Group F, both in Myanmar, will complete the qualification stage of the eight-nation inaugural U-14 tournament.
Iran, Korea Republic, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, DPR Korea and Iraq have already booked their tickets to the finals.
